Solutions and Innovations: Transform Regulatory Reporting in Financial Services

See how you can deliver smarter and more cost-effective regulatory reporting with automation. Hitachi Vantara recently hosted the FCA’s fourth Tech Sprint, an event convened by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and Bank of England. The event brought together over 40 experts from different backgrounds including regulators, banks, legal firms, consultancies, academia and RegTech.

With a goal to demonstrate model-driven, machine-readable and executable regulation, the Tech Sprint turned an existing regulatory handbook into an automated, more efficient format. This new format could drive fully automated regulatory reporting and automatically update reporting returns to reflect a regulatory rule change, and has now become a part of the UK’s FinTech agenda.

Learn how we achieved this, from interpretation and semantic tagging of the regulations to execution against customer data. Take a look at future directions including how regulators can work with RegTech firms to improve transparency and decrease total cost of compliance.

Training Session: Data Discovery and Profiling With Hitachi Content Intelligence

It seems that new data privacy regulations, like the General Data Protection Regulation, are being put into effect by the week—some locally, others globally, and often with their own requirements and fines. Keeping up with these responsibilities begins with a firm understanding of what data you have, where the data is located, who is responsible for it, who has access to it, what degree of sensitive information does it contain, and how that data is being used and protected. With so much data being generated in an organization and so many demands on business leaders to quickly adapt to new opportunities, keeping pace with regulatory requirements can be a daunting task. Or is it?

Imagine a data services layer where you can easily adapt to regulatory changes. In this interactive session, your peers along with our instructor will demonstrate the power of Hitachi Content Intelligence with one of its many capabilities: data profiling and pattern matching. You’ll dig in and develop simple to complex data patterns and test the patterns for accuracy. Then you’ll interrogate a corpus of data to properly classify and categorize information based on the degree of risk each document poses to the organization, which is based on the amount of personally identifiable information it contains. Simply understanding where the privacy risks are in the information throughout your organization is a vital step in closing the data governance gap and being able to quickly adapt to regulatory changes consistently.

Training Session: Automating Data Onboarding With Metadata Injection

We'll cover how metadata injection allows you to dynamically pass metadata to the Pentaho Data Integration (PDI) transformation at runtime to control complex data integration logic. This differs from traditional, static ETL, which requires the creation of transformations for each workload. Metadata injection can drive hundreds of data ingestion and preparation processes through just a few actual transformations. In this session, you will learn how to use PDI metadata injection to maximize your transformations and minimize your time to data insight.

Training Session: Recovery and Agile Copy Services for Oracle

Many Oracle database environments have grown to the point where effective backup and recovery is not possible by traditional means. The size of these databases also hurts your ability to create copies for business continuity, disaster recovery and secondary business functions such as test/development, finance, legal and marketing. In this session, you will learn how to use Hitachi Data Instance Director (HDID) to create nondisruptive, thin image, snapshot copies, to enable almost-instant operational recovery of Oracle databases. You’ll also see how to automate this process so that copies can be created, mounted and refreshed, either periodically or as needed.

Training Session: IoT Analytics Using Streaming Data

You’ll examine the high volumes of data streaming from devices by extracting information from that data stream, identifying patterns, trends and relationships. You’ll use those patterns to trigger other processes or actions, like alerts, automation workflows and feed information, to a reporting tool or store it for later investigation. Streaming data holds potentially high value for the business, but it is also perishable. If the value of this data is not realized in a certain window of time, its value is lost along with the needed decision or action. Rapidly changing sensor data holds immense value but only if you can take action.

Solutions and Innovations: Break Down Your Silos of Financial Services Data

If you're like other banks, you may have separate data silos for each business function and new piece of legislation. With major new regulations every few years, many banks built their compliance systems on top of fragmented core data structures aligned to specific projects. As markets become more complex and legislation becomes smarter, compliance costs in major banks have risen to 20% of total operating cost.

These inefficiencies have now become unsustainable and many leaders are rethinking their enterprise data architecture to control costs and implement effective proactive controls. In this session you'll learn about Hitachi's regulatory data management framework, which brings together industry best practice and our experience of building large regulatory data lakes. We'll go into templates for ingestion routines and information schemas. We'll talk about how to integrate advanced analytics and machine learning into business rules engines that are specific to regulatory or business frame works. This could be the information you need to reverse the rising costs and fragmentation in your compliance systems.

You'll dig in and develop simple to complex data patterns and test the patterns for accuracy. Then you'll interrogate a corpus of data to properly classify and categorize information based on the degree of risk each document poses to the organization, which is based on the amount of personally identifiable information it contains. Simply understanding where the privacy risks are in the information throughout your organization is a vital step in closing the data governance gap and being able to quickly adapt to regulatory changes consistently.

Training Session: IoT Analytics Using Streaming Data

You'll examine the high volumes of data streaming from devices by extracting information from that data stream, identifying patterns, trends and relationships. You'll use those patterns to trigger other processes or actions, like alerts, automation workflows and feed information, to a reporting tool or store it for later investigation. Streaming data holds potentially high value for the business, but it is also perishable. If the value of this data is not realized in a certain window of time, its value is lost along with the needed decision or action. Rapidly changing sensor data holds immense value but only if you can take action.

Training Session: Ransomware Protection and Recovery With Hitachi Content Platform Anywhere

Ransomware may no longer be in the news, but it remains a significant threat. Its short-term damage is that business cannot be conducted while files are locked. The longer-term impact may be loss of trust by customers and users who feel that the ransomware victim cannot be trusted to keep customers’ data secure. There's also the possibility that a victim who pays the ransom could easily be attacked again by criminals who realize they are an easy target. For cybercriminals, ransomware still offers a fast and often large payday.

What if you could easily recover from a ransomware attack—better yet—what if your users could perform the recovery themselves without any cost to your organization? Along with our instructor, we’ll give you a safe place to launch a ransomware attack and walk you through the self-service recovery process. If time permits, we’ll also review the additional benefits of our solution in the movement and collaboration of data at the edge of your business.
