Toshiaki Higashihara

Toshiaki Higashihara leads the global Hitachi organization to achieve a sustainable society through the Social Innovation Business. He has set the company’s direction to deliver digital solutions utilizing Lumada in five sectors including Mobility, Smart Life, Industry, Energy and IT, to increase customer’s social, environmental and economic values.

In support of the founding Hitachi corporate credo of contributing to society through the development of superior, original technology and products, Higashihara ensures that the company provides intelligent social infrastructures globally through digital solutions for improved quality of life. This direction is to create a future where people can live safer, richer lives. The company advances Social Innovation with enhanced digital technologies to accelerate collaborative creation, tackling shared issues and crafting solutions together with its customers and partners.

Higashihara has a long career with Hitachi and was promoted to his current position in 2016 having served as President & COO since 2014. He is only the eleventh president of Hitachi, Ltd. since its founding over a century ago in 1910. Prior to these roles, he was senior vice president and executive officer in 2013, and vice president and executive officer in 2011. His earlier career includes presidencies at Hitachi Plant Technologies, Ltd. and Hitachi Power Europe GmbH, and a stint as chief operating officer of Hitachi’s Information & Telecommunications Systems. He joined Hitachi, Ltd. in 1977.

Higashihara earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science at Boston University and graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Tokushima University.
